My name is Mrs Ayomide Babatunde Odunayo, A Mother, Wife

Let me lecture us about stretch marks

Stretch mark is a common skin condition experienced by
people of all ages, genders, and skin types. Although not
harmful to your health, they can affect self-esteem and
confidence.
Stretch marks, also known as striae, are long, narrow
streaks or stripes that develop on the skin due to rapid
stretching. Initially, they may appear red, purple, or dark
brown but eventually fade to a lighter color. Strecthmarks
appears on your stomach, breasts, hips, butt, and thighs.

TYPES OF STRECTHMARKS

We have 7different types of strecthmarks marks and I will be
explaining them with picture example.

1. Striae Rubrae
These are fresh stretch marks that appear red, pink, purple, or
dark brown depending on skin tone.
Causes:
They occur when the skin is newly stretched and the underlying
connective tissues have been damaged

2. Striae Albae
These are older stretch marks that have faded over time.
Causes:
After the initial damage, the stretch marks heal, losing their
color and becoming more of a white or silver shade.


3.Striae Gravidarum
These are stretch marks that occur specifically duringpregnancy
Causes:
Caused by the rapid stretching of the skin due to the growth of
the belly and breasts during pregnancy.

4. Striae Distensae
General stretch marks caused by skin stretching due to
rapid physical changes like weight gain, puberty, or muscle
growth.
Causes:
Triggered by sudden stretching of the skin as a result of
weight fluctuation, growth spurts, or muscle hypertrophy

5. Striae Nigrae
A type of stretch mark that appears black or dark brown.
Causes:
More commonly seen in people with darker skin tones
CAUSE OF STRETCH
– Rapid weight gain or loss
– Pregnancy
– Puberty (due to growth spurts)
– Bodybuilding
– Genetics

Each of these causes can affect the skin’s elasticity and structure, leading to the development of stretch marks.
